Residents of Atadeka, near Ashaiman, in the Kpone-Katamanso District of the Greater Accra region have been left stranded, after a heavy downpour on Monday (October 28).

The intermittent rains have resulted in floods in homes which has caused panic in the hearts of residents whenever there are signs of rain.

Most of the residents at Atadeka, have been trap in their rooms leaving them stranded due to the flood.

Some affected residents shared their thoughts, experiences, and suggestions on the causes and effects of the floods on their lives.

Madame Cece a resident, told GBCghanaonline in an interview that were no drains or culverts to contain water when it rains thereby flood waters found their way into homes, and on the streets, making them stranded and causing damages to properties and in some cases lives.

She disclosed that she has been stranded for so many days and have had sleepless nights due to the floods in the community.

Kojo Asarae another resident of Atadeka said the area is a waterlogged as it always gets flooded whenever it rains.

‘The assemblyman is not doing his work” he added.

He, therefore, suggests that the government should take advantage of predictions and past experiences of floods to aggressively pursue flood risk adaption. ‘Failure to do this will increase flood disasters, in the country he said.’

The residents are therefore calling on the appropriate authorities to put measures in place to avoid future re-occurrences.
