Hong-Kong, an International Financial hub, has been in the news recently, but for the wrong reasons. Protests sparked off initially by a proposed extradition bill continued for several weeks and degenerated into violence that threatened the future of the city-state. The Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, Shi Ting Wang indicated that the Chinese government is determined to oppose any foreign influence to foster peace in Hong-Kong and promote trade with its partners, especially Africa.

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Shirley Ayorkor Botchway emphasized the country’s belief in a peaceful resolution of disputes within and among sovereign states. This, she said, enables the government to pursue its strategic foreign policy objectives. She said economies of many African countries, including Ghana continue to benefit greatly from trade with China as well as massive investments in infrastructure. The forum brought together participants from academia, business and development communities.
