The Central Region has marked the 74th Remembrance Day Anniversary with a parade of contingent of security personnel at the forecourt of the Cape Coast Castle.
The personnel comprised Ghana Armed Forces, Ghana Police Service, Ghana Prisons Service, Ghana National Fire Service and Cadet of St. Augustine’s College.
A Contingent of the Veterans’ Administration of Ghana (VAG) was also on parade with a joint Police-Military Brass Band in attendance.
The annual event held nationally, is also observed worldwide to commemorate the end of the Second World War and to honour war veterans for their selfless service and dedication to duty.
Particularly, illustrious soldiers who lost their lives during the first and the second World War are remembered.
Christian and Muslim prayers were said for the fallen heroes after which sirens and two-minute silence observed for the lost souls.
The Regional Coordinating Director, Kingsley Agyei Boahen on behalf of, Central Regional Minister Kwamena Duncan laid a wreath at the Cenotaph of the forecourt of the Castle for the government and people of Ghana.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACOP), Abiba Twimasi Sarpong on behalf of the Regional Police Commander, laid a wreath on behalf of the security services, Nana Kwame Edu VI, Tufohen of Oguaa Traditional area on behalf of chiefs and people of Oguaa.
Ex. W.O.1 Joseph Evans Omane, Regional Chairman of VAG, laid on behalf of the veterans.
