The National Road Safety Authority in collaboration with the Ministry of Transport and other stakeholders has launched the 2019 Road Safety Christmas Campaign. The Campaign is dubbed “Stop Road Accidents now, before it stops you”.
The launch outdoored key actions aimed at reducing road traffic crashes and casualties often associated with the busy festive season.
The Authority urged drivers to be responsible while cautioning pedestrians to cross the road at designated safe crossing points.
Passengers onboard vehicles are also advised to wear seatbelts and speak up against all forms of driver misbehavior that endanger their lives before, during and after the festive season.
Motorcyclists and tricyclists are to wear their helmets and avoid unsafe operational practices while transport organisations and institutions observe internal control systems which make crashes unattractive.
According to the National Road Safety Authority, provisional statistics from January to September this year (2019) indicate a 6.07% and 2.25% increase in the number of crashes and injuries.
The period also recorded a reduction of 7.6% in persons killed through road traffic crashes over the same period in 2018.
