The Electoral Commissioner (EC), Jean Mensah has met with the media for the first time after her appointment.
Issues discussed include their activities for the year, limited voter registration and the referendum for the creation of new regions.
Concerning limited voter registration, the Electoral Commission will embark on the exercise from September 16 to 25, 2018. The exercise will begin from 7am to 6pm each day during the period.
The EC said the limited voter registration are for those who have recently reached the voting age of 18 and adults who for various reasons could not register during the previous registration exercise in 2016.
With the division of the country into two zones, the EC said zone one is made up of areas demarcated for the December 27 referendum to create the six new regions namely:
- The Oti area in the Volta region
- The Western North in the Western region
- The Savannah and North Eastern in the Northern region and
- The Bono East and the Ahafo in the Brong Ahafo region.
After the limited voter registration, the voters’ register would be exhibited for people to verify their data.
Earlier this week, some groups filed suits challenging the constitutionality of a referendum which will lead to the creation of six new regions.
Jean Mensa was appointed Chairperson of the Electoral Commission following the removal of Mrs. Charlotte Osei and her two deputies, Amadu Sulley and Mrs. Georgina Opoku Amankwa.
