The Kazigu community in the Kasena Nankana West District has been declared open defecation free, under the tireless efforts of the Kazigu Pe Paarekuri Asanchera Aluah the II. This was made known during their eighth annual Womdia-Abu festival and the 10th Anniversary celebration of his enskinment.

Festivals were celebrated in those days for its significance and in memory of a particular historical event and merry making, but had to bring on board the developmental component to catch up with emerging trends.

The Festival, Womdia-Abu, is celebrated annually to give thanks to their ancestor for a successful farming season.

In an interview with Radio Ghana, the Chief of Kazigu Pe Aluah indicated that, during his enskinment 10 years ago, he was charged to manage the people together with the environment and he has since, with the elders, not relented in their fight against open defecation, sanitation as well as excessive intake of alcohol by the youth.

Speaking on the theme ‘Religious Unity in Diversity, Role of Chiefs and Religious Leaders in Uniting the Kasena Nankana Area and Ghana as a whole’ the District Chief Executive for Kasena Nankana West, Gerard Ataogye on behalf of the Regional Minister among other things encouraged the youth to take up technical education in their area of specialization to avoid the over reliance on the public sector for employment.

He said government is committed to providing the technical schools with the necessary resources, needed infrastructure and equipment to enable them function efficiently and effectively as required.
