The Akpafu and Lolobi Traditional Council in the Hohoe Municipality of the Volta region has called on government and the Commission on Enquiry responsible for the creation of the new regions not to disintegrate the two traditional areas in favour of the proposed new region.
This was contained in a statement signed by the divisional chief of Lolobi Traditional area, Nana Frititi .  It stated that the Hohoe Municipality’s status will be affected and marginalised economically and politically if a fraction of the municipality is made part of the proposed new region.
The statement said government in creating the new region should avoid ethnocentric sentiments or blocs and rather focus on the social cohesion and its duty of unity in diversity.
The statement added that the two traditional councils suffered uncomfortable challenges in the past when these councils were first joined to the Jasikan District and later the Biakoye district.
The two traditional councils therefore took a collective decision to leave Buem Jasikan District on the basis of painful historical event and language barriers.
The statement said the 1992 constitution does not allow political parties, regions, districts and other grouping to be created based on tribal and ethnicity.
These four traditional areas, the only Guans in the Hohoe Municipality were isolated and subsequently forced into the proposed small electoral area created by Electoral Commission and placed under Oti region.
