The 35th Farmers Day has been observed in the various Municipalities and Districts in the Upper East Region.
The Bolgatanga Municipal Farmers Day (FD) was observed at Sokabisi a suburb of the Municipality. In all, 12 Best farmers took home prices in the various categories.
The overall Municipal Best Farmer went to a 64 years old Chief of Yorogo Gaabisi Naba Atia Adindaa Edmund.
For his price, he took home a moterking tricycle, 5 bags of fertilizer, pair of wellington boots, catalases, knapsack sprayer and a certificate.
The first and second runner up 35 old Ayamga Roland and 42 years old woman Apoka Agolmah were give a motor bike each with the accompanying farming inputs, with a 40-year-old Aweo Joshua taking the best physically challenge farmer.
In an interview with Radio Ghana the Municipal Director of Agriculture Dr. Issah, he said that of the Navrongo Municipal’s Farmers Day was held at the Dooba Junior High School ground with Traditional Authorities gracing the occasion.
Twelve (12), awards were given to the best farmers.
Among the awards were 4 plasma TVs, 2 fridges, 2 motor tricycle.
The overall District Best Farmer went to Philip Akantuge Amoah from Janania.
He took home a motor tricycle 3 knapsack sprayers 5 bags of fertilizer, pair of wellington boots, catalases, and a certificate, the first runner up received a motor tricycle and the second runner up, a motore bike all with accompanying farming inputs.
The best physically challenge farmer went to Apogyaanga Abenaaba from Doba.
This year’s celebration is under the theme: “Enhancing Small Scale Agriculture Towards Agribusiness Development”.
In line with this, the Municipal Director of Agriculture Kansena Nankana Gidion Owiredu state that, previous efforts by the department of Agriculture and development partners to increase agriculture productivity and production through farmers has been accompanied by low prices.
He said, it is in the light of these challenges that, the government of day, has called for farmer’s adaptation of the value chain approach through Farmer Based Organization (FBO).
The Municipal Chief Executive, Kasen Nankana Municipal Assembly Williams Aduum indicated that, under the Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) Programme.
Ghana is on the right path to food sufficiency as evidenced from the bumper harvest most crops over the few years.
He stated that, at the Municipal level, seven thousand Two hundred and 40 (7,240) have benefited from the (PFJ) programme made up of five thousand seven hundred and 64 males and One thousand four hundred and 76 females among others.
