Be conscious of the products you consume this yuletide – FDA

The Ghana Food and Drug Authority (FDA) has cautioned the public to be conscious of the kind of foods and other products they buy as the yuletide approaches.

Mr Seth Seaneke, Head of Drug Division FDA, said this at the Graphic Communication Group Limited Safety and Security campaign for the Christmas and New Year Festivities.

He said the FDA is the Agency with the mandate of ensuring the safety of products such as food, drugs, cosmetics, medical equipment, tobacco products and many others that are sold on the Ghanaian market for consumption.

He said it is good for people to have fun in the festive season adding that it was equally important for them to check the products they buy for expiry dates to ensure that the goods were safe for consumption.

Mr Seaneke said people should lookout for products which was bloated or whose covers were tempered with when purchasing a product as they were not safe to consume.

He said it is also the responsibility of individuals in the society to ensure that they were safe when it comes to consumption of certain commodities

Mr Seaneke added that tramadol consumption was dangerous and urged the youth to desist from taking it.

Dr Kofi Amponsah-Bediako, Director of Corporate Communication, Ghana Standard Authority, said they were working to ensure that all products that were sold in the market were up to the expected standards.

He said individuals should ensure that any commodity or product they were buying in the market was up to the standard.

Dr Amponsah-Bediako said the coming yuletide serves as an appropriate conducive atmosphere for the occurrence of dangers.

He said there is a need for all to engage with the police and other security personnel and also know the centres they can easily reach for assistance.

Mr Ato Afful, Managing Director of Graphic communication Group limited, said the internet has provided amazing opportunities that normally comes with challenges.

He said there is a need for all to be mindful of their own responsibilities to stay safe.

The campaign was initiated to acquaint the public on what to do to ensure that they stay safe this yuletide and the New Year.
