The 4th Vice Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba, UEW, has been inducted in the person of Rev. Fr. Prof. Anthony Afful Broni by President Akufo Addo despite controversies on the issue.

Professor Raymond Atuguba in an article ahead of the induction ceremony had described the process as illegal because the case was pending at the Supreme Court challenging the removal of the immediate past vice chancellor, Professor Mawutor Avoke.

Private Legal Practitioner, Yaw Oppong in an interview with Ibrahim Kwarteng on Uniiq FM’s programme “BEHIND THE NEWS” said the indication by Prof. Atuguba on the issue as a pending case means that direct comments cannot be made on the matter because it could amount to contempt.

In reference to the President’s comment at the ceremony that “all legal huddles have been removed”  Yaw Oppong explained that, according to the constitution, the President has the most important function of the Executive therefore, the President is mandated to maintain and execute it.

The President of UTAG, University of Education, Winneba Chapter, Dr Kwaku Frimpong said that despite the controversy on the induction of the new vice chancellor, the ceremony did not come as a surprise to him due to the actions that has been taken in the past by the University Council with the new Vice Chancellor, Prof. Fr. Broni.

He stated that, he believes that the Judiciary is independent of the Executive, therefore the Judiciary can still rule regardless of any decision that has been made by the Executive.
