Virgil van Dijk and Mohammed Salah were on the score sheet for Liverpool as they cruised on a 2-0 victory over Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United at Anfield.

Liverpool are now 16 points clear at the Premier League summit with a game in hand against West Ham and looks almost certain to secure their chances of a first league title since 1990.

Van Dijk headed in the opener from a corner kick flown in by right-back Alexander-Trent Arnold, despite an improvement from the visitors in the second half, Salah raced away on the break to clinch the three points in second-half stoppage time with an assist from goalkeeper Alisson.

United is the only team to take points off Liverpool this season following an impressive draw in the first leg at Old Trafford but couldn’t match the prowess of Liverpool this time around who have made Anfield a fortress.
