The Ministry of Interior has served notice that it will henceforth sanction police personnel who fail to wear protective clothing during operational duties.
The move according to the ministry is to protect personnel from unnecessary deaths.
Addressing police personnel of the Savannah Regional Command, the Interior Minister, Ambrose Derry, emphasised that, wearing protective clothing is mandatory for all personnel on operations.
He said government has provided the necessary accoutrement for all personnel and wondered why they only wear such clothing on peace keeping missions outside the country.
The Interior Minister is on a day’s visit to the Savannah Region to assess the conditions of service of personnel and to motivate them ahead of the political season.
Meanwhile, Ambrose Dery, Interior Minister, has called on the security agencies to work together, and share information to enhance security operations in the country.
He noted that, security is a shared responsibility and called for close collaboration between the security agencies to maintain law and order.
Mr. Dery made the call at a familiarisation visit to security agencies in the North East Region.
