Ghana’s wheelchair racing athlete, Botsyo Nkegbe, is aiming to make history as the first Ghanaian to win a Paralympic medal at the Olympic Games in Tokyo this year.
In order to achieve that dream, the para athlete has shifted his preparation into top gear in readiness to grab gold in this year’s Paralympics in June.
Speaking about his plans and expectation this year, the para-athlete said his aim was to improve upon his achievements and ensure he wins more laurels for the country this year.
Targets for 2020
“My expectation in 2020 is to improve on whatever I’ve done in 2019 by winning more medals for Ghana. As I go to Tokyo 2020, I don’t want to be just a participant but to be a competitor.”
“I want to win Ghana’s first medal, either gold, silver or bronze, which will go into the history books because no para-athlete in Ghana has won any Paralympic medal so that’s what I’m looking at,” Nkegbe said.
“I hope to improve on my performance; I hope to put in more hard work than what I did in 2019 because it is the year of Olympics and Paralympics and I hope to do more.”
Collaborations
According to him, he was improving on his previous engagement with his coach in the US and also collaborating with his two other non-profit organisations to ensure the dream is achieved.
“I am now working with GoGetDem team and Botsyo4Gold team and I am also looking forward to unveil my sportswear in 2020,” he said.
Last year, Botsyo won four gold medals — Dessert Challenge in the USA in May; Atlanta Open, USA in July and OCC International Marathon in the State of Georgia, South Africa in September and the Millennium Marathon.
