GCB Bank and the Rebecca foundation have refurbished the Usher Polyclinic.
The old structure which leaks heavily when its rains was becoming a death trap instead of a place for HealthCare. Washrooms were inadequate resulting in serious sanitation problem for staff and patients.
Speaking at the handing over of the refurbished facility, the First Lady Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo asked Ghanaians to focus on preventive instead of curative health.
Built between 1963 and 1964, the Ussher Polyclinic serves a population of over 145 thousand. As the first port of call for the people of Ashiedu Keteke, the facility lacked key units to cope with the increasing medical cases.
Most of the cases were referred to the Korle-bu Teaching Hospital, Accra Regional Hospital at Ridge and other higher facilities.
With the major renovation and construction of a surgical theatre, the Usher Polyclinic will be upgraded to a hospital. This will improve the facility’s National Health Identification Authority (NHIA) rate and increase the internal-generated fund.
Mrs Akufo-Addo asked Corporate Ghana to invest in health while Ghanaians endorse lifestyles that prevent diseases.
The Managing Director of GCB Bank, Anselm Ray Sowah gave details of the renovation works undertaken at the facility.
The Medical Director of the Usher Clinic, Dr Patrick Amo-Mensah thanked GCB Bank and the first lady for the gesture adding that the hospital will work to reduce maternal mortality.
The occasion was also used to out-door the Odododiodioo constituency’s newly allocated Ambulance under the “One constituency-One ambulance” programme.
