President Akufo-Addo orders police service to enforce laws on vigilantism

President Akufo-Addo has instructed the police service to enforce the laws on vigilantism as the nation prepares for election 2020.
The law which was enacted to curb election-related violence is yet to be applied in its strict sense.
Speaking at Peduase in the Eastern region at this year’s New Year Greetings and Diplomatic reception, President Akufo-Addo assured the diplomatic community of a peaceful and incident-free election.
The New Year Greetings and Diplomatic reception is an annual event that affords the diplomatic community the opportunity to deliver goodwill messages from their governments to the host government.
The diplomats took turns to greet the President and wish the government well. Dean of the Diplomatic corps, Mrs Claudia Turbay Quintero, lauded President Akufo-Addo’s visionary leadership and his campaign for human rights and the Ghana Beyond Aid agenda.

She said the successes chalked up in the agriculture and education sectors are worth emulating.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shirley Ayokor Botchway, promised a regular briefing session for the diplomatic Community.

President Akufo-Addo said government will continue to make strides to deepen the country’s democratic credentials and put the country on the path of progress and prosperity.

He said the fundamentals of Ghana’s economy are moving in the right direction and pledged to sanitize the energy sector of debt.

The president assured them of free, fair and peaceful elections.

Dignitaries at the reception included Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, Speaker of Parliament Prof Mike Oquaye, first lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo and Chief of Staff, Frema Osei Opare.
