The Ghana Health Service has activated its Ebola response mechanism to deal with any suspected cases of corona virus that may be reported in Ghana.
According to the Service, health facilities which were designated for Ebola response are fully ready to accommodate and quarantine cases while personnel who were initially trained for Ebola are receiving more training in readiness for mitigating an outbreak.
At a news conference in Accra, the Director of Public Health Dr. Badu Sarkodie said the National Technical Coordinating Committee is working to find ways to reduce the importation of the virus at all points of entry.
The Director-General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Dr Patrick Aboagye said Ghanaian nationals in Wuhan city and Hubei Province in China, which is the epicenter of the Coronavirus, will not be evacuated.
The decision he said is in line with an advice from the WHO. He said the case fatality rate is not as high as it looks.
