Management of Akosombo Textiles Limited has refuted claims that it has sacked 600 employees and laid off 200 others due to lack of raw materials.

A statement signed and issued in Accra by the Sales and Marketing Manager of ATL, Samuel Hemans said the company has no intention of doing so.

It noted that as part of government’s policy to boost the textiles industry, ATL was a proud recipient of a stimulus package from government in August this year to support the company’s operations. This has helped ATL to clear some salary arrears.

The company has also received a contract from government to produce the fabric for uniforms for 100 thousand graduates under the Nation Builders Corps programme.

In an interview with the Administrator of Akosombo Textiles Limited  Samuel Hemans he emphasized on the fact that its untrue they have laid off their workers.

We do have all the raw materials we need and we are still producing , the reason other media outlets think we have laid off people is because we do 3 weeks production and a week maintenance so people thought we had laid workers off because we were doing maintenance he continued. The key challenge they are facing is the smuggling of raw materials into the country which delays their production, he said.
He concluded that, government has awarded them a contract to produce uniforms for graduates and its in two folds, this is to promote made in Ghana products in the country, he added.
