WESTERN NORTH REGION INDEPENDENCE
From the Western North Region, our Correspondent reports that the Independence Anniversary took place at Wiawso College of Education (WATICO) park, at Sefwi Wiawso, the regional capital.
It was participated by 40 basic schools and four SHS cadets as well as security personnel drawn from the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Immigration Service and Ghana National Fire Service, while the Ashanti Regional Police Band provided music.
Addressing the parade, the Western North Regional Minister, Kingsley Aboagye-Gyedu, paid tribute to the individual heroes and organizations that led the struggle of the political independence like UGCC, CPP and the Aborigines Rights Protection Society.
He said though Ghana had been independent for more than six decades, it still has infrastructural deficits and therefore asked citizens not to be complacent of its past glory.
Mr Aboagye-Gyedu advised Ghanaians to be proud of the democracy being enjoyed in the country, adding that development thrives on democracy and urged the citizenry to be cautious with their political utterances.
He said the educational curriculum being changed is tailored to produce human resources to address the country’s socio-economic needs. Prizes were presented to the schools which excelled in the March Past.
EASTERN REGION INDEPENDENCE
From the Eastern Region, our correspondent Caleb Aidoo reports that about two thousand contingent made up of the military, fire service, immigration service, prison service, Ambulance service, basic and second cycle institutions were on parade at Jackson park.
It was commanded by major I. K. E Amoah from Ghana Armed Forces.
The Eastern Regional Minister, Mr. Eric Kwakye Darfour, who delivered the anniversary speech on behalf of the President, said since Ghana gained independence, it has had difficulties and stumbled in the search to reach its potential but has never lost her position as the leading light on the African continent.
He noted that the country has squandered many opportunities that would have brought us economic breakthroughs.
The Oti Boateng SHS was awarded the best composed second cycle school in the Eastern Region while Cadet Division went to New Juaben SHS. There was also a gymnastic display by the pupils.
In New Juaben North in the Eastern Region, the Ghana Senior High School, GHANASS emerged winners in the 63rd Independence Day Anniversary parade organised by the New Juaben North Municipal Assembly at the Effiduase Methodist Church in Koforidua.
Twenty-two basic schools made up of both the private and public schools, four SHS’s, four cadets contingents and the security services participated in the parade anniversary.
At the primary level, Effiduase R/C Primary emerged winners.
TEMA INDEPENDENCE
At Tema, the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Ishmael Ashitey appealed to Ghanaians, especially residents of Tema to take their personal hygiene seriously to help curtail the COVID 19 in case there is an outbreak.
Mr. Ashitey said it is only when people take their personal hygiene seriously that they can avoid being infected with the coronavirus.
He was at the event with the MP for Tema Central, Kofi Brako, the Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, Felix Mensah Nii Annang-La and a Council of State Member, Stanley Nii Adjiri Blankson.
Mr. Ishmael Ashitey underscored the need for all to know the facts about the coronavirus. At the Ashaiman 63rd Independence Day Anniversary Parade, four hundred students and pupils from ten public and private basic and second cycle schools, as well as ninety officers and teachers from the Municipality, took part in the parade.
The Ashaiman Education Director, Mrs. Rose Appoh-Biney urged all to sacrifice in building the nation like those who fought for its independence did.
The Ashaiman Municipal Chief Executive, Albert Boakye Okyere called on all, particularly residents, to promote peace and unity ahead of the upcoming general election.
