Ghana observes World Social Work Day

Ghana on Tuesday, March 17 joined other countries globally to observe the World Social Work Day. It is a day set aside by the UN to show appreciation to social workers and ensure that these workers are also held accountable to the people.

Speaking to GBC’s Radio Ghana, the Vice President of the Ghana Association of Social Workers, Alexis Dery said there are a lot of social workers in various social welfare departments in government structures who are helping to solve problems in communities.

Mr. Alexis Dery said they are taking advantage of the celebration to contribute to the awareness creation of COVID-19 in the country.

He said there are few workers in various social welfare centers especially government sectors and are faced with financial challenges since government is not giving much attention to their work.

He therefore congratulated all workers us they mark the day and urged them to continue to deliver on their mandate.
