Government has directed a 14-day compulsory quarantine for anyone who arrives in Ghana from any of the country’s entry points.
Deputy Minister of Health, Alexander Abban who announced this on GBC’s Current Affairs Programme ‘Focus’, said government has made available enough quarantine centres for all visitors.
He however did not disclose where those quarantine centres are.
Mr. Abban said the compulsory quarantine by the State is to stop the spread of the coronavirus, following the confirmation of one more case, bringing the number of suspected cases in the country to seven.
Mr. Abban noted that all the cases reported were brought in from other countries.
The Deputy Minister appealed to Ghanaians to follow the health protocols issued and not panic. He said the Ministry will provide updates periodically on the virus.
Director of Policy, Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation at the Ministry, Dr. Emmanuel Odame said 350 contact tracing have been done with the six earlier reported cases.
He said two samples out of the 350 sent to the Noguchi Memorial Research Institute have so far come out negative.
Dr. Odame said the tracing team will meet today (March 18), following the 7th reported case, to trace those he had contact with.
Dr. Odame asked Ghanaians to eat well and follow the protocols associated with the disease.
