The Avatime Traditional Council, in the Ho-West District of the Volta Region has urged citizens to strictly comply with directives suspending events associated with this year’s annual Easter celebration and all other public gatherings in communities under its jurisdiction to prevent the spread of Coronavirus.

This is contained in a statement issued by Osie Adza Tekpor, Paramount Chief of Avatime Traditional.

The Council said it would not hesitate to sanction anyone or group of persons who may attempt to organise public events including Religious Worship of any magnitude, Excursions, Sports, Entertainment of all kinds, Sports, Weddings, Puberty Rites, and funerals which could attract a significant number of participants.

The Council said in view of the potential consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country, there is the need to avoid activities that can undermine
health and safety of the citizenry.

It urged traditional authorities under its control to work with town development associations, Assembly Members and other relevant stakeholders to initiate precautionary measures to protect all citizens.
