The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), in the Sefwi Wiawso Municipality of the Western North Region is under threat as its poles and other materials are razed through bush burning.
About 20 electricity poles worth almost ¢30,000.00 have been spent in substituting them from January to early March this year.
The figure is likely to rise if the rate of bushfires is not reduced as the farming season sets in.
The District Manager of ECG, Martin Gyan, who disclosed this in an interview with GBC’s Correspondent at Sefwi Wiawso said the destruction of the poles affect ten political districts in four regions which are Central, Ashanti, Western and Western North.
He attributed the frequent electricity outages in the areas to the practice.
