The Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Madam Cecilia Dapaah says all Ghanaians including those owing the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) will enjoy government’s free water package for the next three months.
Madam Dapaah said this at a press briefing on Tuesday (April 7) to react to media reports that customers owing GWCL would have to settle their arrears before enjoying the government’s free water package.
“The arrears will be kept as arrears, but those who owe will enjoy (free) water for April, May and June so there shouldn’t be any alarm. The arrears are on hold,” the Sanitation Minister stated.
President Akufo-Addo on Sunday (April 5), announced that the government of Ghana will absorb the water bills of all Ghanaians for the next three months. In a nationwide broadcast, the President said the bills will cover the months of April, May and June.
This, according to the President forms part of measures to lessen the burdens of Ghanaian as they battle with the outbreak of Coronavirus.
