CSIR stores at World Gene Bank as backup

To promote food security in Ghana in case of a disaster, the Plant Genetic Resources Research Institute of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, CSIR, is keeping some of the country’s indigenous genetic species at the World Gene Bank, in Svalbard, Norway.

The Director of the Institute, Dr Lawrence Aboagye who disclosed this to GBC’s Radio Ghana said keeping some genetic materials out of their countries of origin serves as a buffer.
