Just a day after the arrest of four Burkina Faso nationals for illegally entering Ghana though the Upper West region, another nine have been arrested by immigration officials in the region.

The nine were picked up Wednesday, May 6, at Batoma and Beat Four. These are unapproved routes under the Hamile sector command in the Lambusie District.

A statement signed by the Upper West Regional Public Affairs Officer of the Ghana Immigration Service, ICO Ibn Yussif Duranah said their ages range between 16 to 36. They are made up of six males and three females.

The illegal migrants were intercepted on motor bikes with Burkina Faso registration numbers. One of the bikes was unregistered.

ICO Duranah said the motor bikes have been impounded pending further investigation.

Preliminary health screening conducted on the Burkinabes by the Port Health authorities showed no sign of health threats.

Initial investigations also revealed that their migration into Ghana was for economic purposes. The nine persons have since been handed over to the authorities in Burkina Faso.
