The Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council, GPCC, has appealed to President Akufo-Addo to lift the ban on social gatherings, especially Churches.
An Executive Member of GPCC, Bishop Samuel Noi Mensah, is asking the government to formulate safety guidelines for churches, to allow them to resume activities.
He stressed that churches have proper structures and the capacity to roll out effective social-distancing and safety measures, unlike the market places and other business centres, which have a challenge adhering to the safety etiquettes.
Bishop Mensah, however, noted, that the call is not grounded on the financial constraints posed by the restrictions on social gatherings on churches.
Adding, that the GPCC is ever ready to dialogue on the issue.
Meanwhile, the Bureau of Public Safety, BPS, says the call by the GPCC is premature since COVID-19 infections are on the increase. Executive Director of the Bureau, Nana Yaw Akwada, insists that an extension of the lockdown would have immensely helped in containing the spread of the disease.
