The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has launched the 2018 Family planning week in Accra.

The focus of the year’s launch is to sensitise Citizens on the availability of Family Planning services to cater for the needs of women and girls.

Speaking at the launch of the Family Planning week on Wednesday, the Director General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Anthony Nsiah- Asare touched on some challenges the family planning programs face and the need to engage the media to create awareness on the benefits of Family Planning.

“One of the major challenges faced is only for married women. However, Family Planning is available for all as stated in the National Reproductive Health Service Policy and Standards. All individuals and couples including adolescents are eligible for Family Planning services,” he said.

He concluded by stressing on government’s commitment of including Family Planning service and supplies in the National Health Insurance benefit package during the next scheme review period.

This will make family planning services free or charge at all public sector facilities and all private sector facilities subscribed to the scheme.
