The Techiman Municipal Chief Executive, John Kofi Donyina has expressed worry over the non-compliance with the wearing of face masks by some residents in the Municipality as one of the safety protocols against COVID-19 spread.
In an interview with GBC’s Radio Ghana, he said after distributing about 15,000 face masks to residents, it’s disheartening that many are still not wearing them.
He consequently promised that the directive will be fully enforced through arrests and prosecutions going forward.
The wearing of a face mask is one of the measures instituted to prevent the spread of COVID-19. It has become a law in Ghana and persons who flout it could face a jail term of up to three-months.
Despite this most Ghanaians are not adhering to the wearing of the mask.
For those wearing them, it’s not being done properly due to the frequent touching of the mask which could contaminate it.
On a trip to Techiman, the capital of the Bono East region which recently recorded its first case, it was observed that roughly five out of every six people on the streets were not wearing a mask.
Even some security officers who are supposed to see to it that people wear the mask were also without masks. When reached for comment, the MCE for Techiman, John Kofi Donyina expressed his worry.
He said the Assembly will see to it that the face mask law is enforced by arresting and prosecuting those who flout it.
Mr. John Kofi Donyina then called on Ghanaians, especially those in his Municipality, to adhere to the wearing of the face mask to stop the spread of COVID-19.
