Parliament is demanding immediate attention to be given to the Accra International Conference Centre, AICC which is gradually becoming a death trap. The structure has developed defects and poses a serious threat to the hundreds of patrons who visit the edifice to host major national and international events.
Currently the concrete that covers the iron rods in most columns of the Conference centre are peeling off with some of the rods badly eroded. These, engineers have blamed on poor maintenance of the facility and weather elements.
A Structural Engineer from the Ghana Institution of Engineers, Mark Addo, said most of the columns that are affected have 30% of the concrete peeled off.
Mr. Addo made the revelations when the Foreign Affairs Committee of Parliament inspected the facility. The Committee visited the passport office after the Conference Centre.
Chairman of the Foreign affairs committee, Frank Annoh-Dompreh called on government to urgently take steps to stop the AICC from collapsing.
