The Ahafo region which was the only region with no case of Covid-19 in Ghana has recorded its first case.

The Ahafo Regional Director of Health Services, Dr. Boakye Boateng who confirmed this to GBC’s Radio Ghana in an interview said, “the affected person is in isolation in Goaso and is responding to treatment.”

The Ahafo Region was the only region among the 16 in Ghana without a confirmed case of Covid-19. The region last month had an imported case when an individual who had taken a Covid-19 test in Obausi travelled to Derma in Ahafo to visit his relatives before the results of the test came in as positive.

Barely a month after that incident, the region has recorded its first case as Ghana’s covid-19 case count crosses the ten thousand mark.

Dr. Boakye Boateng said they have started contact tracing and 16 contacts have been identified so far with the Ahafo Health Directorate stepping up its enhanced surveillance in the region.

Dr. Boateng cautioned the media to be circumspect in their reportage while advising the public to refrain from stigmatizing Covid-19 patients.
