Coronavirus: Ghana’s case load surges to 12, 929

The confirmation of 339 new COVID-19 infections have caused Ghana’s case count to rise to 12, 929.

Additionally, 58 patients have recovered from the disease, increasing the country’s recoveries to 4,468 from 4,410 since the last update.

The death toll, however, remains 66 with active cases standing at 8,395.

The Director of Public Health at the Ghana Health Service, Dr Badu Sarkodie, who gave the update at the bi-weekly press briefing of the Ministry of Information, said 14 cases were considered severe, with four in critical conditions and currently on ventilators.

The 339 new cases per the update were confirmed in eight regions.

Of this, 154 were recorded in 17 districts of the Greater Accra Region, 58 were from the Western Region and 41 were also confirmed in the Ashanti Region.

The rest included the Central Region – 38; Eastern Region – 15; Volta Region – 13; Bono East – 9; Northern Region – 9; and Savannah Region – 2.

Per the latest update, the Greater Accra Region remains the hotspot of the disease in the
country with a case count of 7,573, representing almost 60 per cent of the country’s total case load.

The Ashanti Region also has a case count of 2,403, while Western Region cases also surpassed the 1,000 mark and now stands at 1,051.
