The Kaneshie District Magistrate Court One in Accra has adjourned to August 24, a case of assault against the Managing Director of New Africa Real Estate Ltd, Nana Kwame Bediako, also known as Freedom Jacobs Caesar.
Nana Kwame Bediako is being accused of physically assaulting the Manager of the Shell Filling Station, opposite the Accra Sports Stadium, George Aborah, over a ¢30,000.00 debt he owed the station.
According to the charge sheet, Nana Kwame Bediako in 2019 bought fuel on credit from the station with the promise to settle the amount as soon as possible. However, all effort by the Manager to retrieve the money was unsuccessful so he decided to go to the office of Nana Kwame Bediako in the Wonda World Estate at Ridge on February 18, this year.
The accused person upon seeing the complainant became offended and physically assaulted him and also tore his shirt. Mr. Aborah then reported the incident to the police.
The accused person did not honour an invitation by the police to assist in investigations. A summon was also served on him to appear before the court but he again failed.
A bench warrant was subsequently issued for his arrest.
On the June 18, 2020, the accused Nana Kwame Bediako was arrested, arraigned and charged with the offence of assault contrary to section 84 of the Criminal and Other Offences Act 1960, Act 29.
The Court presided over by Magistrate Rosemond Egyir, adjourned the case to enable the parties to agree on a compensation for the assault and also come up with payment modalities for the settlement of the debt and return to the court with the settlement agreement on August 24, 2020.
Meanwhile, Nana Kwame Bediako Thursday, July 9, lodged a counter charge of assault against Mr. Aborah at the Osu Police Station.
