An eight bedroom detached house with an un-estimated amount of property was on Friday completely gutted by fire at New Town, a suburb within the central part of Sunyani.

The fire started around 0950 hours from an unknown source with smoke that engulfed the entire building, Mr Richmond Mills, an eye witness and a resident of the house narrated to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview.

Mr Mills, 25 and the son of Mr. Francis Osei Bonsu, the owner of the Space and Moonlite FMs, two sister local radio stations in Sunyani said the house was owned by his father, adding that “we cannot tell how the fire started”.

According to him, it took close to 25 minutes for a contingent of about 15 personnel from the Sunyani Municipal Station of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) to arrive at the scene.

The fire personnel spent more than one hour before they could bring the fire under control, Mr. Mills who is an employee of Space FM said, and lamented that “notwithstanding the effort of the firemen, everything within the building was burnt to ashes”.

Assistant Division Officer One (ADO 1) Ruth Mensah-Tandoh, the Bono-Ahafo Regional Public Relations Officer of the GNFS later told the GNA that her outfit could only comment about the incident when the situational report was out.
