More children risk being pushed into child labor across the country, especially along the coastal communities, as a result of the Covid-19 crisis and the resultant closure of schools.
It is estimated that on the Volta Lake there are more than 21,000 trafficked children involved in hazardous work.
The Central Region is said to be the major source of these trafficked children.
Three Child centered NGOs in the Region, ‘Hen Mpoano and Challenging Heights’, are thus undertaking a project to secure the Rights of Children engaged in the Fisheries Sector in the Central Region and along the Volta Lake.
They have visited Kpando -Torkor, a transit point and market place, where trafficked children are negotiated and purchased, to study a similar project initiated by GAWU to eradicate child trafficking.
