This year’s West African Senior School Certificate Examination, WASSCE will commence today (August 3).
375, 737 candidates are expected to sit for the papers in more than 796 examination centers across the country.
Statistics indicate that 187,574 candidates are males, with 188,163 females. Ashanti tops the number of candidates with 87,295, followed by the Eastern region with 56,467 candidates.
The Bono, Bono East and Bono West regions presented 45,295 candidates.
The Central region presented 42,946 candidates, Greater Accra, has 37,974 candidates, with Oti and Volta presenting 34,466 candidates.
Northern, Savannah and North East Regions, are fielding 24,830 candidates.
Western and Western North regions have 24,332 candidates, while the Upper East has 13,334 and Upper West fielding 8,798 students for the examination.
The candidates are from 641 Public and 335 private schools.
Depending on their courses, the candidates are expected to write four core subjects and three other electives.
The examination ends on September 5.
