Driver of the Cargo Truck which was involved in a fatal accident on Tuesday at Kyekyewere, near Suhum on the Accra-Kumasi Highway has been arrested.
In an interview with the Acting Eastern Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Police Service, Sergeant Francis Gomado, he said the driver, who is alleged to have bolted together with his mate after the accident, was arrested and is in the custody of the Suhum Police.
He said thirty-two-year-old Bagwan Tommy, who is a Burkinabe, is assisting the police in their investigations and will be arraigned before court soon.
Fourteen persons, including a nine-year-old boy, lost their lives while several others sustained injuries in the gory accident.
The accident involved the Burkina Faso bound Cargo Truck, which was transporting flour from Accra to that country, a passenger Bus and an STC Bus.
The injured persons were taken to the Suhum and Nsawam Government Hospitals while the dead were deposited at the Suhum Government Hospital Morgue.
Medical Superintendent of the Suhum Government Hospital, Dr. Kofi Ablorh said some of the injured persons were treated and discharged on the same day, while others are still on admission and those with severe injuries were sent to the Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua.
