The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), has expressed concern over the arrest of the Vice President of the Private Newspaper and Online Publishers Association of Ghana, (PRINPAG), David Tamakloe for a publication on the harassment of some minority ethnic groups in New Edubiase.

Speaking to GBC’s Radio Ghana, President of the Ghana Journalists Association, Roland Affail Monney described the arrest as unconstitutional.

He said the wrongful application of police authority especially on journalists should be avoided especially as the nation prepares to go to the polls.

Meanwhile, the Private Newspaper and Online Publishers Association of Ghana, (PRINPAG), has expressed shock at the arrest and detention of its Vice President and Managing Editor of Whatsapp News, a virtual publication David Tamakloe.

Mr. Tamakloe was arrested on October 7, over a virtual publication which captured concerns raised by some Ewes and Northerners resident in the New Edubiase constituency of the Ashanti Region.

According to the Police, Mr. Tamakloe was arrested based on a bench warrant after he failed to honour an invitation to assist in investigations.

A statement signed by President of PRINPAG, Edwin Arthur, said the Association views the arrest as an infringement on the rights of Mr. Tamakloe as a journalist adding that such complaints should be handled by the National Media Commission and not the police.
