The widow of the late Member of Parliament (MP) for Mfantseman, Mrs Ophelia Mensah Hayford has filed her nomination papers with the Electoral Commission to replace the husband, Ekow Kwansah Hayford in the December Parliamentary election in the area.
Ekow Kwansah Hayford who was the MP for the area and was seeking re-election was killed by suspected armed robbers last two weeks on a highway at night.
For the first time after the husband’s tragic killing, Mrs Ophelia Mensah Hayford publicly broke her silence and said the show of support from all quarters was helping her to hold back tears from the loss.
In a brief remark, she pledged to retain the seat for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and to continue the good works her husband was undertaking.
Dozens of party supporters in black and red clothing processed amidst the singing of solemn songs through the streets of Saltpond from the NPP office at the Saltpond junction to the EC office where she presented her forms.
