Melcom Group of Companies through Melcom Care Foundation, the humanitarian arm of the Melcom Group has supported three Schools with nine (9) mechanized modern washrooms to complete the first phase of the Washroom Project in the Greater Accra Region.
Accra Wesley Girls Senior High School located at North Kaneshie has received 5 of the facilities, St Theresa’s Complex School also in North Kaneshie got 2 and Madina Fire Armour Cluster of Schools received 2.
As part of the assistance, the company included toilet roll packs, toilet brushes and detergent to help in maintaining the facilities for a period of time.
First phase of the Projects will provide a minimum of 64 washroom cubicles for 19 schools in the Primary, JHS, SHS and Tertiary levels of education in 9 Regions across Ghana.
The Director of Communications of the Group, Godwin Avenorgbo in an interview with the Media said that “the goal of the project is to enhance sanitation and hygiene practices among school children, who are future servants of this country”. “The Facility is to serve as a bridge between education and health and these children need modern facilities this”, which he believed will help build a healthy population for tomorrow.
He however, charged the schools to take good care of the facilities and clean them hourly.
At Accra Wesley Girls Senior High School, the General Director for Education and Youth Development, the General Manager of the Methodist Schools in Ghana, Very Rev. Naana Dannyame noted that it was a privilege to be part of the few schools to be selected for the donations.
She added that the facility will go a long way to help students as far as sanitation facilities are concerned because of the population of girls, and “ladies need special attention when it comes to issues of sanitation”.
The Headmistress of St. Theresa’s School Complex, Rev. Sister Paula Elizabeth Nkansah Okyere, expressed her appreciation to the Company for their substantial support over the years and asked for more.
The official commissioning and handing over was done by the Director of Brand Management, Mrs. Sonya Sadhwani.
