Immediate past Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu has fired back at Government in a 27 paged statement to react to the reasons for his resignation.

The letter which was addressed to the Secretary to the President said the president’s nine paged response to his resignation contained what he called introductory falsehoods, public deceptions and spinning propaganda which need to be debunked.

According to Mr Amidu, the president’s letter was just to assassinate his character for exposing the true nature of the Agyapa deal.

According to Mr Amidu, claims that President Akufo-Addo did not interfered with his anti-corruption assessment report on the controversial Agyapa Royalties deal as stated in the President’s November 17 response to his resignation letter are false.

The former Special Prosecutor revealed that the President had on two different occasions directed him to halt any further investigation into the Agyapa Mineral Royalties deal.

He stated that at 8:40 a.m. on the morning of October 21, the President directed him through his Chief of Staff not to take any further steps on the Agyapa Royalties Limited Transactions anti-corruption assessment report until he Martin Amidu met the President on Friday, October 23, 2020.

He said it was then that he was awaken to the suspected realisation that the President’s holier than thou pontifications about fighting corruption did not extend to doing so without fear or favour, affection or ill will to cases in which the President’s ox is gored.

Mr Amidu said he immediately reported his concerns to the late former President Jerry John Rawlings who had always acted as a go-between, between the President and him in his Office in the presence of a surviving third party.

He said indeed it was upon the former President’s insistence that his mere presence as the Special Prosecutor contributed to reducing what he called the rape of the public purse through corruption activities that prolonged his stay as Special Prosecutor.

According to him, late former President was the insurance for his independence of action.

He continued that the demands made on him by the President when he Martin Amidu met the President in his Office on Friday, 23, October 2020, to withhold any further action on the tax haven based Agyapa Royalties Limited anti-corruption assessment report that convinced him instantly that he had laboured under the mistaken impression that Mr Amidu could be his poodle.

He stated that the interfering demands made by the President on the performance of his functions as the Special Prosecutor is the only explanation for telling the President immediately in his office that he did not intend to continue as the Special Prosecutor.

Tagging the President as the Moses of anti-corruption, Mr Amidu questioned why President Akufo-Addo refused to order the Municipal Chief Executive for Bawku Municipal Assembly to vacate her office after she was caught in a corruption scandal.

He highlighted that the President’s directive to let the Auditor-General, Daniel Yaw Domelevo proceed on accumulated leave was unconstitutional and therefore called on the President to explain to Ghanaians why the Bawku Municipal Assembly MCE is still at post while corruption-free Domelevo has been removed from office.
