The Upper East Regional Director of the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) Sebastian Hotor, has called on members of the public to look out for expiry dates of products as they shop for Christmas.
According to him, getting to the end of the year, those whose products are nearing expiration, reduce their prices to dispose them off.
Mr. Hotor made the call in an interview with journalists at the maiden festival of nine lessons and carols night organized by the FDA to usher in the Christmas festivities. He noted that it is legal to sell products nearing expiration dates at cheaper prices, adding that it behoves the consuming public to watch out and buy little quantities that can be consumed before the expiry date approaches.
The Director said officials of the FDA in the Region have been active since the beginning of the year until the COVID-19 pandemic set in, which compelled them to reduce the number of officials on the field.
He said FDA will embark on intensive education in the markets and also alert the public to the dangers of buying expired goods.
