More than 15,000 beams of timber have been confiscated by the Sefwi Wiawso District Forestry Office through an exercise, aimed at checking illegal felling of trees.
It is being carried out jointly by 120 military personnel with 15 fleet of vehicles and Forestry officials.
The District Forestry Manager, Nana Poku Bosompim, in an interview with GBC’s Radio Ghana said the Taskforce has also closed down about 37 sawmills involved in the illegal felling of lumber to serve as a deterrent to others.
He said the military personnel have two additional helicopters flying to intensify the operations to save the forest from depletion.
