President Akufo-Addo will today deliver his last state of the nation address to Parliament. This is in line with the constitution and the standing orders of parliament which require the president to give a message on the state of the nation before Parliament is dissolved.
The current Parliament which is the 7th under the 4th Republic was inaugurated on 7th January 2017 and will stand dissolved on midnight of this Wednesday, the 6th of January 2021.
Thereafter, the 8th Parliament will come into existence.
The first task of the next Parliament will be the election of a Speaker and his two deputies.
Then there will be the swearing-in of the newly elected MPs.
What is not clear presently is which of the two parties will sit on the right to indicate majority as both the NPP and the NDC have won 137 seats each according to EC figures.
