The Chief Justice, Justice Kwasi Anin-Yeboah, has pledged to investigate allegations that a Supreme Court Judge attempted to bribe an NDC MP to vote for Rt. Hon. Aaron Mike Oquaye, in the election of the Speaker of the 8th Parliament.
A statement said, “the Judiciary has noted with grave concern the remarks of Mohammed-Mubarak Muntaka, Member of Parliament for Asawase, alleging that a Justice of the Supreme Court attempted to bribe an NDC female MP to vote for Rt. Hon. Aaron Mike Oquaye, in the election of the Speaker of the 8th Parliament which took place on January 7, 2021.”
In an interview on an Accra based station on Sunday, January, 10, Mr Muntaka, who is also the Chief Whip of the NDC caucus in parliament, claimed that a Supreme Court Judge was a conduit of bribe proposals to NDC MPs to get them to vote for Prof. Mike Oquaye as Speaker.
But the statement signed by Justice Cynthia Pamela Addo, Judicial Secretary, said the Chief Justice considers this allegation of impropriety a matter of grave import to the integrity of the Judiciary.
“The Hon Chief Justice is therefore taking steps to solicit the assistance of Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, MP, to establish the facts in order that the matter can be dealt with appropriately. The public will be apprised of any further development in due course,” the statement signed on Wednesday, January 13, added.
