The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin, has called for reforms to limit the number of Members of Parliament appointed as Ministers of State.
This, according to him, is unhelpful to the business of Parliament and also weakens Parliament’s ability to perform its proper role in the promotion of good governance.
Mr Bagbin while delivering a speech at the first business sitting of the 8th Parliament said the situation distracts the MPs from parliamentary business.
He said scholars and students of governance have observed and noted that the appointment of MPs as Ministers of State has affected adversely the ability of Parliament and of MPs to carry out faithfully their representative, oversight, deliberative, and legislative roles.
