Ghana Trade and Livelihood Coalition, an NGO is asking government to consider establishing a factory in the Upper West Region to produce Plumpy Nuts. Plumpy nut is a therapeutic food used to rehabilitate severe malnourished children.

Speaking to Radio Ghana in Wa, Policy Officer at the Wa Office of the organization Emmanuel Willingdool said government needs to take steps to ensure that plumpy nut is always available for malnourished children who need them badly to be rehabilitated.

He said currently UNICEF is the only organization that provides the product here in Ghana. Mr. Willinghood explained that when government establishes a factory in the region to produce Plumpy nut, it will make it readily available for local use and export surplus to other countries for foreign exchange. This he said will also give real meaning to the Ghana Beyond Aid policy.
