Management of the Komfo Anokye teaching hospital in Kumasi has confirmed the intention of pulling down the abandoned 40-year child and maternity block by the contractor to give way for the reconstruction of the project.
The decision was arrived at after the Contractor detected severe infrastructural defect which defeats the continuation of the block which was re-awarded on contract by government last year.
The continuation of the project, which cost over $250 million, was scheduled for completion in 36 months.
However, upon examination of the project by the contractor, it concluded that the best option is to pull the entire structure down for a new foundation.
The Public Relations Officer at the Hospital, Kwame Frimpong who confirmed the story, however indicated that the cost and schedule for completion, as well as the capacity shall remain uncompromised.
