President of the Upper East Regional House of Chiefs, Pe Detuudini Adiali Ayagitam, who is also the Paramount Chief of the Chiana Traditional Area in the Kassena-Nankana West District, has appealed to residents and the country at large, to take keen interest in the upcoming COVID-19 vaccination exercise.
This, he believes, will go a long way to stem the spread of virus in the country.
Pe Ayagitam, spoke to GBC News on the sidelines of the general meeting of the House held in Bolgatanga.
Ghana will begin its COVID-19 vaccination on March 2 and it will be conducted in phases among prioritized groups, beginning with health workers, adults of 60 years and above, people with underlying health conditions, frontline executives, the legislature, judiciary, and their related staff.
The country on Wednesday (February 24, 2021) took delivery of 600,000 Coveshield AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines delivered by UNICEF, at the Kotoka International Airport.
It formed part of the first wave of COVID-19 vaccines that COVAX is sending to low-and middle-income countries.
At its first meeting since members elected its new leaders, the President of the Upper East Regional House of Chiefs and Paramount Chief of the Chiana Traditional Area in the Kassena-Nankana West District, Pe Detuudini Adiali Ayagitam, said since President Akufo-Addo, Vice President Dr. Bawumia and other top officials of the current administration will be taking the jab first before the roll-out, it is very necessary for all citizens to take keen interest in the exercise.
He said the public must be conscientized to correct the wrong perceptions about the vaccine.
Ghana is among 92 countries that have signed onto the COVAX programme.
