Lands and Natural Resources Minister charges Regional Ministers to help address challenges in sector

Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor, has charged the President’s representatives in the 16 Regions to be the arrow heads and take the controlling lead in resolving the numerous challenges in the mining sector.

Mr Jinapor expressed his commitment to work closely with the Regional Ministers to resolve the complicated challenges in the lands and natural resources sectors, such as illegal small-scale mining, deforestation and encroachment on Public Lands.

The sector Minister said this when he held a consultative meeting with Regional Ministers.

He reminded the Regional Ministers of the President’s call for a National Consultative Dialogue on small-scale mining, adding that, a Committee is being put in place to organize that dialogue.

The meeting was to enable the sector Minister obtain an initial input and proposal from the Regional Ministers.

Mr Jinapor asked the Ministers to do more to help improve the sector.

In the meantime, the Minister tasked the Regional Ministers to take full charge and work with agencies under the Ministry to stamp out all form of illegalities.

Ministers from Bono, Ahafo, Savanna, Western, Western North, Eastern, Oti, Upper West, Bono East,Upper East, North East and Volta regions attended the meeting.
