Innovation and technology key to Ghana’s survival – Otumfuo

Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu has asked Government to work closely with the Ghana Institution of Engineering to offer solutions to the prevailing challenges inhibiting the country’s development.

“Our fate shall be sealed if we do not make use of our God-given talents, become innovative and bring new applications to the fore,” he noted.

He said the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has taught the world many lessons, especially low and middle-income countries, including Ghana, on how to be self-dependent.

This was in a message presented by the Hiahene, Nana Professor Oheneba Boachie-Adjei at the 51st Annual General Conference and Meeting of the Ghana Institution of Engineering in Kumasi.

In a message presented on behalf of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu at the 51st Annual General Conference and Meeting of the Institution, Hiahene, Nana Professor Oheneba Boachie-Adjei said the basis for the Sustainable Development Goals is to improve the quality of life of citizens.

This is by eliminating poverty, enhancing access to good quality education and health, proper sanitation and developed infrastructure, good drinking water, amongst others.

Therefore, it is incumbent on government to work with the Ghana Institution of Engineering in coming out with innovations for the various sector.

These can be in renewable energy, robust information technology and communication system, as well as infrastructural development among areas relevant to the Sustainable Development Goals.

The Minister of Works and Housing, Francis Asenso Boakye underscored the vital role engineers play in the socio-economic transformation of the country.

The Immediate Past President of the Ghana Institution of Engineers, Leslie Alexander Ayeh said it is the desire of members of the Institution to bring their expertise to develop the country.
